Artistic Name: Rosário Mateus
Full name: Maria do Rosário Pires Mateus Ramos Guerreiro
Rosário Mateus was born in Alcains, Castelo Branco. She lives in Oeiras, about ten miles from Lisbon, where she has her atelier. She was a disciple of the master painter Maria Helena Leite with whom she got her basic skills specialy in portrait. She attended several free courses in the United States.
She did the following courses on the portuguese "National Society of Fine Arts" (Sociedade Nacional de Belas Artes), "Course of Painting" (Curso de Pintura), and the "Course of Aesthetics Themes and Theories of Contemporary Art" (Curso de Temas de Estética e Teorias de Arte Contemporânea).
The Artist Rosário Mateus has participated in many individual and collective exhibitions in Portugal, Italy (Rome), Brazil (S. Paulo), Spain (Vigo and Marbella), England (London), France (Paris) and in the United States (New York).
She is present in private collections in Portugal, Spain, Denmark and the United States. She is also present in several Anthologies: "International Annual of Art Lisbon (2003)"; (Anuário Internacional de Arte Lisboa (2003)); "Atelier Collections"; (Colecções Atelier) filmed documentary (VHS); Dictionary "Art in the Feminine - Who is Who in the Portuguese Painting of 21st Century (2007)"; (Arte no Feminino - Quem é Quem na Pintura Portuguesa do século XXI (2007)) and in the book "Figurative Painting in Fine Arts in Portugal 20th Century" (O Figurativo nas Artes Plásticas em Portugal no século XX).
